Licks/Phrases/Chords

On the old site I tried to do a “Lick of the Week” type of thing, but I didn’t keep up on it. I’ll try a little harder this time :-) These are some II-V-I licks from before in Powertab format, PDF format, and a MIDI file.

These aren’t exactly II-V-I licks…they’re more like chord melody phrases in Powertab format, PDF format, and a MIDI file.

Some of these shapes are from Scott Henderson’s chord book. I gave all of them an “A” root and moved them around to get major, minor, dominant and diminished sounds. Here it is in Powertab format, PDF format, and a MIDI file.

This is an exercise from Jerry Bergonzi’s book Melodic Structures. They’re digital patterns over Blues for Alice by Charlie Parker. Here it is in Powertab format, PDF format, and a MIDI file.

I don’t use a pick as much anymore, but this is an exercise I came up with for sweep picking. Kind of sounds like a Frank Gambale thing… here it is in Powertab format, PDF format, and a MIDI file. And trust me, I could never play it at that tempo. :-)

Rhythm Changes exercise in Powertab format, PDF format, and a MIDI file. I might try to do a few more of these, so stay tuned.
